Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Conduct regular walk-abouts, visually assessing the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel and spa; all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and any other related equipment. • Verify completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back of the house spaces, and external areas. Verify completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovation works throughout the hotel and spa. • Assist in the training and development, supervision, and disciplining of all staff in the Engineering Department, such as duty engineers, plumber, painter, joiner and apprentice(s). • Adhere to all corporate purchasing policies and controls; all Health & Safety policies; and all other Company policies as required. Follow prescribed safety procedures for personnel, contractors and equipment at all times. • Maintain an effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance program, utilizing the Maximo system as required, and conduct special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel. • Inform the chief engineer on a regular basis regarding the specific and overall condition of the building structure(s), related systems, and equipment offering prudent, cost effective proposals for maintaining these systems. Access and input information via the computer and generate required reports. SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position requires the performance of a combination of the following supportive functions within the hotel: • Demonstrate initiative at all times. • Operate a planned preventative maintenance program to ensure the building, plant and equipment is maintained to a high level of GSI and ASI comfort and safety. • Prioritize work schedules in accordance to guest needs. • Ensure that Maximo is fully utilized by the team and hotel departments. • Take full responsibility for the Engineering function in the absence of the CE, making decisions and communicating results to other department heads to ensure the dept provides a seamless service at all times. • Motivate team and seek continuous improvement of policies and service practice. • Maintain an effective engineering stores system. • Ensure accurate records are completed and maintained for Utility readings, training and work schedules. • Supervise and control line staff and contractors, ensuring optimum performance, efficient and safe working procedures. SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities: • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. • Must have thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, water treatment, and refrigeration equipment. • Must have thorough knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems, power, water and gas supplies. • Must have experience in office procedures, ordering materials, record keeping systems, applicable building laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc. • Must possess good computer skills. • Working knowledge of occupational safety and health, wage and hour issues, and labor relations. Physical Demands • The worker may be subject to various hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electricity, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Appropriate safety techniques and equipment to be used at all times. • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment, including computer keyboards. Able to perform ‘hands-on’ work as and when required.

Requirements

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS Education: High school or equivalent education required. City & Guilds. HNC Engineering or Electrical. Experience: Minimum of three years in a major hotel, hospital, or building, one year of which was in a supervisory capacity. Licenses or Certificates: Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits beneficial to hotel. Includes Certification in Health & Safety. Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per Starwood standards.
