Job Description

Assists the Director of Engineering in maintaining the hotel facilities, including the physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. Ensure the upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive hotel. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for scheduling and administering payroll as well as assisting the Director of Engineering with the daily direction, supervision and training of the Engineering staff. The successful candidate must also follow prescribed safety procedures for personnel and equipment by the company and provincial regulations. The maintenance of effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs and act as Health & Safety Committee Co-Chairperson.

Requirements

Successful candidates must have two to three years of Engineering supervisory experience in a major hotel, hospital, or similar type of operation, and have thorough knowledge of all types of mechanical equipment such as chillers, boilers, water softeners, and refrigeration equipment along with a thorough knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems, maintenance of records of power, water and fuel consumption. High school or equivalent education required. Bachelor's Degree or related technical school degree is preferred. Candidates must possess, or have the ability and experience to acquire, a first or second class power engineering certificate as required. Applicants must have the ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits. Experience in office procedures, ordering materials, securing bids, and of city codes and other applicable building laws, building construction, blueprint reading, etc is essential. Working knowledge of an unionized environment is preferred.

Department

Engineering - is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the building and its systems, grounds, fixtures and equipment. The Engineering department is also responsible for preventative maintenance within the hotel. This is a department that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
